The elected members of the Council serve the village community of Cranham Parish, which has 394 residents on the Electoral Role (Oct.03)

It is a requirement that the Council is made up of at least 5 members excluding the Chairman.

 

About Us

The responsibilities of the Council are to: -

Serve the parishioners of Cranham

Own and be responsible for: -
The Pound and the Pond
Allotments - letting/collecting rent

Notice boards - repair & replacement

Location: -The Knoll, By school, By Post Office, Village Hall,

                 Cranham Corner

Seats: - Playing Field(2), Knoll, Bunny Hill, Millennium on

             Common, VE nr Cricket Field,  Pound, Pond

             nr Woodside Farm

The Playing field, conveyed to the Parish Council as a charitable trust; managed by a committee drawn from the village societies and parishioners. Click here for more information.

Oversee: - 

Rights of Way, refer unresolved problems to GCC
Matters relating to Cranham Common - encroachments, fly tipping etc. The Commons Management Committee (click here for more information on the Common) can deal with complaints or can refer onto The Lords of the Manor
Planning applications
Roads, report those in need of repair etc to SDC/GCC
Guardians of the Scout & Guide Association funds

Precept

"A precept is a peremptory order to a billing authority [S.D.C.] to pay to a local council or parish meeting a named sum, but this is payable in accordance with a schedule of installments which the authority draws up by 31 January for the financial year beginning the following 1st April..........The local council, in calculating its precept must as far as possible secure that it will suffice for four classes of items, namely:

a) next year's expenditure, including an allowance for contingencies;

b) outstanding expenditure incurred in previous years;

c) expenditure likely to be incurred before the precepted sum becomes available (e.g. interest on an overdraft);

d) payments to a sinking fund, capital fund or renewal and repair fund."
